EIC Eligibility Check
NOTE: Glossary words appear in blue. Click on any glossary word to see its definition.
What is an eligibility check?
An eligibility check is an easy way for you to find out if you are likely to qualify for benefits by answering online questions about yourself, your children, your living situation, and your income. You will see the results of the eligibility check right away, on your computer screen.
To answer the eligibility check questions accurately, you may have to check your records. The results of the eligibility check will only be correct if the information you enter is correct.
An eligibility check does not give an official result, but usually provides a good estimate. The only way to get an official result is to file a tax return.
IRS Earned Income Tax Credit Assistant
The Internal Revenue Service has an online Earned Income Tax Credit Assistant to help you find out if you are eligible for the EIC and to estimate the amount of your credit. The EITC Assistant is available in English and Spanish.
